Self-Care Habits You Did Not Know You Need for Self-Love

Self-care is one of MO’s pillars to achieving true love for self. To love yourself properly, you have to take care of yourself in all aspects. When the term self-love comes to mind, I assume the first thing that gravitates towards your mind is some form of self-care. Over here, we have an understanding that self-love is more than just self-care. Self-love is about showing up for yourself in all areas of your life and working to improve on the pillars as you develop. But let’s talk about self-care for a moment.

What if I told you that some overlooked self-care activities could be some of the important ones you need. In today’s post, I share some self-care tips I believe are extremely important when showing love to ourselves.

Self-Care Habits for Self-Love

Water

Are you drinking enough water for your body in a day? Probably not? There is a large percentage of people that are not consuming the proper amount of water they need. When you are discussing the importance of self-care, drinking water for the body is significate. Did you know that your body consists of about 60% water? Your body needs this! Not only do you need water to stay hydrated, but there is also a long list of benefits that comes with drinking water.

Some benefits of drinking water:

According to Harvard Health Publishing, drinking water can help

carry nutrients and oxygen to your cells.

flush bacteria from your bladder.

aid in digestion.

Prevent constipation.

normalize blood pressure.

stabilize the heartbeat.

protect organs and tissues.

Water also helps with acne, weight loss, headaches, and so much more!

Drinking water sounds like a simple task, but I would encourage you not to take this for granted. If you have access to clean drinking water, use it. Your body will thank you.

Do Activities That You Love To Do

I am a big advocate for people doing the things that they love to do. When you show up for yourself in this manner, you express that you are present and ready to pour into yourself if needed. Healthy activities that you love to do can help you sustain long-term happiness. When you practice self-love activities, you begin to notice that you make it a habit to show up and show love to yourself.

There are a lot of benefits to doing activities that you enjoy. Being present in your moment helps you eliminate stress, improve your mood, and open your mind to new activities that you might enjoy.

Doing what you prefer to do also allows you to expand your knowledge. When you practice a hobby that you are genuinely interested in, you find yourself growing in that area. It does not feel like work to you because it feels like peace.

Breathing

Breathing. Breathwork is a big part of self-care that people tend to neglect when discussing the topic. A large percentage of people are not breathing correctly. The body needs the right amount of oxygen to help it function properly. A bad posture habit like slouching can contribute to the lack of oxygen in your lungs. Some benefit of practicing deep breathing is that it helps release tension in the body, relax your mind and reduce the stress that you may be experiencing in your day-to-day life. Deep breathing exercises like practicing yoga and meditation can help clear your mind and ground you. Inhale, exhale.

Sunlight

The sunlight is powerful. One of the main sources of vitamin D is sunlight. The sun helps in the production of vitamin D for the body.

Vitamin D is important for your bone, immune system, and blood cells. When the body lacks vitamin D, this can result in a low mood, getting sick, fatigue and tiredness, depression, anxiety, and much more.

Although you can receive vitamin D from food sources, sunlight is an alternative way you might tend to neglect.

The sun provides additional benefits like,

Improving your mood, improving sleep patterns, preventing vitamin D deficiency, regulating the body’s temperature, and helps fight stress and insomnia.

Journaling

Journal your heart out. Journaling is a powerful tool to utilize during your self-love journal. Writing is one of the ways that you can self-reflect to have a deep introspect about your life experiences. Practicing journaling allows you to release emotions and tension that you tend to store in your body.

Some people cannot healthily express their feelings, and most times, others do not express their feelings at all. Suppressing your emotions can be dangerous, and if done for a consistent amount of time, it can end detrimentally. Learning to journey is a self-care act that can help you not only release those strong emotions that weigh you down but can help you manifest and affirm your life.

Sleep

Although you have probably heard this before, I will repeat it, enough sleep is an important activity to practice during your self-love journey to a healthier life. Let’s be honest here, you need the right amount of relaxation to function properly during the day. When your body does not get decent rest, you tend to feel sluggish and out of touch with yourself. Not only does it mess up your mood, but it can also cause you to lose motivation to complete tasks.

Some benefits of sleeping are:

To maintain a healthy weight

Reduces stress

An increase in productivity

To improved exercise performance.

As you get older, you appreciate the importance of getting the proper amount of rest. Sleep is a part of self-care, and it is wise to avoid taking it for granted. Get some Rest.

Working Out

Regular exercise is the part that some might not want to hear, but having exercise activity is essential for a healthier life. You can maintain a healthy lifestyle through regulate exercise. Here’s the thing, exercise does not have to be an intimidating task. You can make working out fun. When you neglect your body, this can result in serious health risks like obesity, high blood pressure, fatigue, and the feeling of anxiety and depression.

Some benefit of exercise is that it:

  • Improve your mental health
  • helps with your weight improvement
  • Improve your metabolism
  • tone and strong muscles
  • An increase in energy level

and so much more!

I say all this to say, try not to underestimate the little things when discussing self-care. All these habits are just as significant and can further change your life for the better.

What do you think? Do you practice any of these self-care routines? If so, which ones? If not, do you plan to start practicing any of these habits? Let me know?
