New Year, Same me. Each day, Better me

You know people usually say “New year, New me” and it gets really uncomfortable to hear after a while. You cannot change who you are and what you do overnight, it just does not happen. “New year, Better me” sounds about right. I hope to be better that I am with each passing day. 2016 was bittersweet for me. I had one of the best experience of my life and also some hardship here and there. I had the opportunity to travel and see a tiny portion of the world which has inspired me to travel more. I am blessed to see another year.

I cannot convey how many years that I have seen the same behavior or read similar quotes. On every new year, the gym is packed and by the next month, it is empty again. Most people tend to make unrealistic goals and expectations and get disappointed when results are not visible after a short period of time.  There is an old proverb that says “Cut you coat according to your size”. Make goals that are attainable and when you have achieved them, make new ones. Otherwise, you will get overwhelmed, then discouraged, then quit and then you will find yourself waiting at the end of the year to say “New year, New me”, again.

For 2017, my goals are constantly growing.

  • I want to learn new things, go new places, and meet new people.
  • I want to try new things and to really step out of my comfort zone.
  • I want to be transparent and to express myself in wonderful ways.
  • I want to look fear in the face and not be afraid.
  • I was to be closer to God.
  • I want God to heal my wounds that I try to run from.
  • I want to learn to let my guard down once in a while.
  • I want to trust and love more.
  • I want to spend time doing the things that I love.

This new year should be about growth just like each of our days. Keep in mind that you cannot drop all your old habit overnight. There is another saying that goes, “It takes 30 days to form a habit. Personally, I think it takes 30 days to form a habit, but it takes an additional 30 days to have it. It takes a lifetime of consistency to keep it.

It is one thing to want change, it is another to apply necessary steps to make it happen. Anything is possible and I believe that you have the ability to achieve all your hopes and dreams.

Staying Grounded on this New Year, Remember to:

  • Surround yourself with positivity.
  • Write your dreams/goals down.
  • Envision your success.
  • Work smart
  • Pray for strength and guidance.

…. And most importantly

  •  Have faith.

To whoever that is reading this, I love you with all my heart and I believe in you.

Here is to 2017, may you have Peace, Love, and the Strength to go for your heart’s desires.

With love,

Mo
